Fans of the hit series Ozark are likely wondering when season 4 will release on Netflix, and what it will be about. The crime drama, executive produced by Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams, continues the saga of the Byrde family in Ozark season 3. After Chicago financial planner Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman), who is secretly a money launderer for a Mexican drug cartel, moved his family to Osage Beach, Missouri, the Byrds became embroiled in various criminal enterprises.
In Ozark season 3, Marty and his wife Wendy (Laura Linney) found their front as legitimate owners of a new casino hard to maintain as the FBI closed in on their new business, while their employer, Mexican drug lord Omar Navarro (Felix Solis), fought a war against a rival cartel. Complicating matters was the arrival of Wendy's deeply troubled younger brother Ben Davis (Tom Pelphrey), who threw a wrench into the Byrdes' business dealings and caused friction within the family. Everyone's loyalties were tested in Ozark season 3, including Ruth Langmore's (Julia Garner) loyalty to Marty.
After Ozark season 3's dramatic conclusion, the door is left wide open for the Byrdes' crime saga to continue; will the Netflix series return? The following is everything known so far about Ozark season 4.
When Will Ozark Season 4 Release On Netflix?
Netflix has not renewed Ozark for season 4 yet. The first season premiered in July 2017 and Ozark season 2 followed a little over a year later, in August 2018. The year-and-a-half-gap until Ozark season 3 was the longest it took for the series to be produced. Given the shutdown of film and TV production in the wake of the global coronavirus pandemic, even if Netflix does greenlight Ozark season 4, it could take even longer for it to reach audiences — possibly late-2021 or 2022.
However, executive producers Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams have said that their overall plan is for 5 seasons of Ozark. Hopefully, the saga of the Byrde family will indeed make it all the way to its intended conclusion.
Who Will Be In The Cast Of Ozark Season 4?
Following the events of Ozark season 3, fans can expect the entire Byrde family to return, which includes Jason Bateman as Marty, Laura Linney as Wendy, Sofia Hublitz as Charlotte, and Skylar Gaertner as Jonah. In addition, Julia Garner will also return as the irrepressible Ruth Langmore. Ozark's three seasons had a significant body count and many ancillary characters have been killed off, but the core lead characters should all come back, as should Lisa Emery as Darlene Snell and Charlie Tahan as Wyatt Langmore.
Season 4 will likely feature some new faces as well. Similar to Ozark season 3's provocative addition of Tom Pelphrey as Ben, Ozark season 4 will likely introduce a few pivotal new characters to further unbalance the Byrdes' tenuous criminal empire and volatile family dynamics.
What Will Ozark Season 4'S Story Be About?
Ozark season 3's ending completely upended the show's paradigm. With Helen challenging Marty and Wendy over control of Byrde Enterprises' business, their boss Navarro made a fateful choice between his lawyer and the Byrdes. Meanwhile, Ruth severed her connection to the Byrdes and reunited with her estranged cousin Wyatt under the umbrella of Darlene, who has relaunched her heroin operation. Finally, Jonah has lost faith in his parents, especially his mother, after Helen laid bare the depths of Wendy's actions against his uncle Ben.
This leaves the story wide open for Ozark season 4, with Marty and Wendy now solely responsible for Navarro's "legitimate" business dealings in the U.S., Marty making a new enemy within the FBI, and the Langmores and Snells united with the Kansas City mob — who all oppose the Byrdes. So far, Marty and Wendy have found ways to survive in, and even thrive in, Osage Beach, but at a dear cost to their family. Ozark season 4 should make the Byrdes' lives even more difficult, but fans are all in
